Summer on the ‘roof of the world’

One of the many things I love about Summer up here on the ‘roof of the world’ is how different it feels from Winter. Obviously, for a start it is a whole lot warmer, but that’s not what I mean. Take the Roo Bar, the place where all the coolest young (and less young!) people tend to hang out. In the Winter it is packed with jolly skiers warming themselves on the best GluWein within miles, but in Summer it really comes into its own with yachtees, windsurfers, kite surfers, cyclists and hikers all coming together to chill, swap tales of their adventures and drink Caipirinhas. For the sweet toothed there are exotic and health-giving ice creams, all made on the premises with surprising flavours such as Acai and Guarana. And that’s the thing – in the Summer this bar has an exotic hint of caribbean to it. Large cushions scattered casually on the wooden terrace make for informal relaxation and for those chillier days the wooden benches have colourful cosy blankets. There is a constant stream of great music playing and a real sense of joie de vivre!
