It is so very typical of St Moritz that a simple activity, such as taking the escalator, is turned into a beautiful art experience! I particularly enjoyed the stunning collection of Peter Berry reproductions. In fact I spent some time going up and down the escalator to better enjoy them!
It is true, that all I needed do was go around the corner into the Berry Museum itself, which has the real thing, but there was something captivating about this art against the stark modern context of the escalator walls!
Berry was a prolific painter, he found endless inspiration all around him. I always feel his colours perfectly catch the light and mountainscapes. However he also turned his hand to being a physician, on the advice of his bother in law, Johannes Badrutt. In fact he was to become one of the very first Spa physicians. This didn’t slow his painting down – thankfully!
